    What's For Lunch?
As an entrepreneur, I'm always intrigued by small businesses, home-based or not, that exceed the expectations of their customers in a big way.Let me tell you about one of them.Recently I spent some time with my daughter in her college town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We were spending the day getting her apartment ready for her return to school in the fall. When it was time for lunch, she wanted to take me to a restaurant in the small town of Northport, just to the north of Tuscaloosa.Northport is one of those typical southern small towns whose downtown area has been converted into a delightfully quaint shopping area. Central to it is a restaurant called City Cafe. What an experience. We arrived at the location at 11:30 a

Here's the thing. If you started your company to have a little extra money and work a "little" weekly, this article isn't for you. If you started your company or became an independent agent to work 70-hour weeks and make just enough money to live by, this article isn't for you. However, if you're in either situation and Uncle Sam is letting you deduct business expenses from your taxes, then you're self-employed, not a business owner.

    Let me explain.

The self-employed have done one thing for themselves -- created a job with a paycheck, a job with the burden of a lot of extra jobs and taxes.

On the plus side, they've created a system that includes tax deductions -- Whoopy! But what they've done is go from working for a company to creating a job for themselves AND added the stress of being the boss!

Face it -- the self-employed are slaves to their businesses, because no one is working for or with them. Many go from one client to another, or they have only one big client and a few little ones. As they work, they keep reinventing the wheel because they don't have long-term plans or systems in place.

Medical Billing - DME Software Security
In this installment of medical billing and DME software, we're going to cover the topic of security, which can actually apply to any type of medical billing software since security is such a big issue these days. The whole topic of security pretty much stems from the HIPAA privacy rules. These rules cover just about everything, including health plans, health care providers, health care clearinghouses and billing agencies. If you're associated with the medical profession in any manner shape or form, you are probably under the HIPAA privacy rule umbrella. The main information that is protected by the HIPAA privacy rule is the patient's past, present, or future medical condition, the provision of health care to the patient, the past, pres

Put That Email Aside Until You Calm Down!
If we lived in a perfect world, business would be business. It wouldn’t be tainted with destructive competition and the petty conflicts that are so prevalent in everyday transactions. But, as you know, we’re far from that ideal. We have to handle defensive people, who make us defensive, and then who call us, defensive! When we feel burdened by someone’s ego, we should to try to ignore the weight of it.There is one, simple technique that has been working for me: waiting for a short period to respond to the communications of difficult or uninformed people.Let me give you an example.I was approached to deliver a speech by a reputable organization that pays its speakers a laughable amount for their professional services.

Go All the Way -- to Business Owner!

Business owners, on the other hand, give themselves the gifts of time and self-value, while they give others one of the most important gifts they can give -- paychecks for doing what they love!
