For long-range shots, the weapon of choice is an Earth battle rifle, if you can't lay your hands on a sniper rifle. If you aim at an opponent's head and they don't... they will be wondering how they died so quickly. If you are running dual plasma rifles, alternate you fire, in 3 to 5 round bursts. This lets you mercilessly pound and erode your opponents shield. If they can't get cover, they're done.

Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle combo:

My personal favorite. If you are at close to medium range, hit them with a big shot from the plasma pistol and transition to the battle rifle. POP/brap/brap down. At long range, pick them off with the battle rifle. In gameplay, this plasma pistol/battle rifle combo is highly effective against Ultras (that have been known to kill you, after getting 2 plasma grenades stuck on their face!).
