Since 9/11, I have resisted writing very much about the issue of terrorism. One of the main reasons for my reluctance has been the very salient fact that I can hardly muster enough rational objectivism to do so. I feared, as I fear now, that I would not be able to say anything other than,

"Why don't we just round up anyone who participates in anything remotely related to worshipping Allah, and boot them out of the country or lock them up in camps as we did the Japanese during World War II?"

Ok…ok…I get the horror of what I just said. You don't have to write me hateful emails telling me what a monster I am.

Now you see why I have resisted writing about Islam, Muslims, or anyone who worships the Arab idea of God—Allah. Objectivity totally escapes me in this issue.

Historically, I totally get why the U.S. government locked the poor Japanese-Americans up in camps. I understand it, I feel the fear behind it, and I get that all of the motives behind what happened were mostly ill placed. No matter how you feel about that event in history, you have to acknowledge the logic behind it no matter how wrong the premises were.

But what I see, and maybe here is where I can offer a glimmer of objectivity, is that the motivation behind what we faced and fought during WWII and what we face now with Islam are radically different. What the Japanese wanted and what Islamic madmen want are as different as night and day. Their objectives are different. One was political and the other, the religious ideology of madmen.

Whatever political or philosophical position you take on the issue of the war in Iraq, the who, what, where, why, and how we are in that mess, or the issue of Islamic terrorism itself, you cannot deny their objective is to kill Americans and all those who stand in the way of their delusion.

I would love to hear better solutions if any exist.

What would make me feel better, to the power of infinity and beyond, is if members of the American-Muslim community turned the plotters of terroristic evil into the FBI as a New Jersey store clerk recently did. We don't know his identity and probably never will. The FBI has to protect his life. But the point should be made and made well:

"Why don't those in America who are Islamic, who no doubt know of plots, and plots within plots, turn in those who would see this country go down in a flaming nuclear conflagration at their hands?"

Are Americans going to wait before widespread Homicide bombings begin in your local neighborhood malls before acting?

Well, are we?
