The Advertising Specialty Industry ompanies are people oriented and like to help out the community. You should have no problem getting permission from the manager to conduct a wash. The Advertising Specialty industry is essentially about advertising specialties or promotional products. It involves the imprinting of a company logo or information on almost thousands of diverse products to help endorse acompany name or the theme that the product carries. This business is a multi billion dollar industry with sales exceeding $17 billion in the United States. Some of the products that are umanufactured are T-shirts, hats, golf shirts and jackets, pens, calendars, drink ware, bags, office products, magnets, etc.The industry is comprised of two main companies, namely the suppliers and the distributors. The supplier companies generate the product and imprint it with a message. Suppliers do not sell to the public, but dispense their lines through distributors. Distributors are required to have considerable know-how about the products available and should be able to generate promotional ideas based on the client's finances and messages they wish to send through the promotional pieces. Distributors are the companies that sell to customers. There are two industry relations that support the advertising specialty industry. One is a profit-driven association called the Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI). The other association is a non profit organization that is the foundation of the industry and how it began. The Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) was started in 1903. The industry was called Advertising Specialties, the new name PPAI, adopted in 1993, better reflects the nature of the industry. It is a dynamic and active industry that continues to evolve every day Number 2 reason is because every one goes to Wal-Mart or K-Mart and you will have an unending supply of people to donate to your cause. (We have also used large grocery store parking lots, so don’t limit yourself to the big boys, because it will work anywhere). Number 3 reason is you can supply your group with additional supplies as you need them without having to send someone for them. Step 2. Approach the Manager and ask his/her permission to conduct a Windshield Wash. Find out who the manager is and ask for an audience. Approach him/her and extend your hand in greeting. It is not the size that matters, rather the thought or the message that is conveyed through the medium. The origin of the name, poster has a very interesting story. This is a simple business that really works. Because it is easy, please don't over look its simplicity without giving it an honest try. It works! We use Windex, Newspapers and a sponge to make $75.00/hour. Several years ago as Youth Director of the United Pentecostal Church in Hackberry, LA (a small town population of 2,500 people approximately 30 miles south of Lake Charles, LA) if was my job to raise funds for our various projects for our group or donation to other causes. In our fund raising efforts in the past, we have tried candy sales, pizza sales, item sales, walk-a-thons and all sorts of other gimmicks. Most of these brought poor participation and little income for our youth group. It seems if we wanted to raise money for our group it was struggle after struggle. Perhaps you are there now. When we came upon the idea of a windshield wash, at first it seemed a little CRAZY. Who ever heard of making money from a service as simple as this. WOW!!! .....That's a cool word, I'll believe I'll spell it backwards...WOW. Where was I. Oh yea. We were shocked at how fast this little business generates mountains of green stuff called cash. Zowee! We found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have walked my last 10 mile walk-a-thon. No more candy and pizza sells. Keep your eyes glued to these simple pages and I will reveal to you how you can do the same for your youth group. Your gonna love this business. LET'S DANCE (Here is the juicy stuff you've been waiting for) The 3 items that you need to begin your windshield washing business are:
Perhaps you have these items lying around the house and it won’t cost you a cent to get started. I recommend 2 sets of the above 3 items for each group of 3 people in your group. If you have 12 people in your group, then you need 8 bottles of glass cleaner, 8 cleaning sponges and 8 newspapers. Don’t worry if you don’t have the money to get this right off the bat, as you can purchase more with profits you will make. Start with one set of the above items. Work this business according to our instructions, and soon you will have enough money to purchase many more sets of cleaning supplies. TIME TO GET STARTED Step 1. Decide where you want to conduct your first wash. When I lived in Hackberry, LA the decision was an easy one. I worked for the busiest business in town, a grocery store called Brown’s Food Mart. I spoke with the owner and he gave me the go ahead. If your town is big enough for a Wal-Mart or K-Mart, this is where I recommend going. I choose this for 3 reasons. Number 1 is because both of these companies are people oriented and like to help out the community. You should have no problem getting permission from the manager to conduct a wash. It seems if we wanted to raise money for our group it was struggle after struggle. Perhaps you are there now.As I am sure you know by now, AGLOCO has launched their program. Touted to be the Internet's first Economic Network, which will harness the power of the Internet-based social networks to "directly benefit the Members who help to create the community". What does that mean? The founders of AGLOCO (A Global Community) saw the huge potential in the social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube. All those potential customers have advertisers drooling at the mouth. If the users created the community why not give them a portion of the ad revenue that was being generated. Share the wealth. AGLOCO was their answer. How would this work? I'm glad you asked. You have to become a member of AGLOCO. You first are required to fill out a simple sign-up-page. After that you must download a piece of software they are calling a "Viewbar". (Currently being tested) Oh did I mention that this is FREE? Yep a free membership. The viewbar would allow you to do an Internet search. The search engine provider would then pay AGLOCO a fee. While you are doing your search the viewbar would have targeted advertising displayed. If you were to click on the ad and subsequently make a purchase, then AGLOCO would be paid a fee. Obviously the more people who become members, the higher the fee AGLOCO can demand from the advertisers. A large portion of that money would then be paid back to the members. Other expected sources of income include commissions form transactions, the distribution of software, services distribution and product distribution with the accompanying referral fees.Members earn a monthly share of When we came upon the idea of a windshield wash, at first it seemed a little CRAZY. We are in the process of raising fun Appointment Setting: An Introduction, Not a Lifetime Commitment! l>Many of you are cold calling—or introductory calling, as I prefer to think about it—to set new business appointments with prospects. In order to effectively set new business appointments, it is important to determine the goal of your initial telephone call. Many of you would say that your goal is to close the sale. And that is true—closing is your ultimate goal. Closing, however, is not the goal of your first telephone call. This is an important distinction! When making introductory calls, your goal is to set the appointment and only to set the appointment. Every business has its own sales cycle. Getting in the door is step one. If your prospect does not know you, your company, your product or service, then she will never buy from you. So, how do you accomplish step one and get in the door? On an introductory call, you are not selling your product or service, you are selling a meeting. You want your prospect to give you 10 to 15 minutes of their time, so that you can introduce yourself, your company, your product or your service. And that is it! At this point, you are not asking the prospect to do anything but give you time. You are not asking her to buy anything, change vendors, commit to or change anything that she normally does. Approaching your calls this way changes the entire conversation. Suppose your prospect tells you that she already has a vendor. So what! You are not asking her to change vendors, you are asking her to meet with you so that you can introduce yourself, your company, product or service, and that way, in the future, if her situation changes, she’ll know you, Perhaps you have these items lying around the house and it won’t cost you a cent to get started. You should have no problem getting permission from the manager to conduct a wash.Fire exits should be strategically located, with an outward opening door that has a crash bar and outward leading signs on it. Knowing where to find the emergency exits in a building that you frequent can save your life. Inward opening, rotating and sliding doors are unacceptable for use as fire exits, as they might need to be fixed open using a latch or chain if the door is needed as an exit route. In the UK, one exit is satisfactory for buildings where no more than 60 people work, as long as that the building is on the ground floor level only. The outsides of fire exits need to be kept clear and marked with a suitable keep clear sign. Whenever the building is in use, the exits should be well lit by normal mains lighting. Once your workplace follows a course of scheduled assessment, unsafe conditions can be recognized and corrected before they cause serious injuries.Learn the location of fire escape routes and how to set off the fire alarm. It might be necessary to make available "refuge points" for disabled or elderly persons to wait for assistance in some larger buildings. You should also remember staircase exits, since elevators may not function during a fire, or may expose passengers to gas, heat or smoke. It is important that there be sufficient and adequate fire exits so that people can safely and swiftly leave the building without being put in any danger should there be an outbreak of fire. The combined use of ordinary and special fire exits allows for quicker mass departure, while it also gives another option if the route to the usual exit is blocked by fire, etc.The numb Number 2 reason is because every one goes to Wal-Mart or K-Mart and you will have an unending supply of people to donate to your cause. We are in the process of raising funds to send our children on a missionary trip, raise money for the band, raise money for Girl Scout Uniforms or whatever your cause is. We would like permission to use your parking lot in a little fundraiser. We approach people and offer to wash their auto windshield for a small donation to help Kidz 4 Kidz! Once permission is granted, we simply apply Windex to the front windshield of the auto, scrub it with our sponge (at this point hand a sponge to the manager so that he can see it will not damage the windshield) and then dry it with newspaper. We then collect the money as they either enter or exit the store. We will make sure all newspaper and trash is picked up prior to leaving the parking lot and all supplies that we need will be purchased from your store." Inform the manager what day you will be on his/her parking lot and at what time you will begin. Step 3. Organize your group. I will spell it out step-by-step with a group as few as 3 people and you can upsize the supplies according to the number of people in your group. If you wish start with 1 each of the supplies, but I recommend to make it go faster and more profitable to use 2 or each of the supplies. You need a spokesperson for each group. This person needs to be outgoing and not afraid of speaking to someone. They need to be loud enough to be heard. Not the shy silent type, here. This person needs to approach the driver of the vehicle as they get out of the vehicle and say "Good Morning we are with Kidz 4 Kidz (or the name of your group) and for a small donation we would like to wash your windshield", then remain quiet. If the person ask a question, just answer it. Mostly they ask about your group or what you are raising money for, then they pull out change or dollars from thier pocket or purse and give it to you. Zowee! Time to go to work, you have hit pay dirt. "For a small donation, we would like to wash your windshield." This little saying speaks volumes. It is short, easy to say. It conveys to the person that you approach, exactly what you want. When you introduce yourself with the name of your group, especially if it is a youth group, people automatically want to help. It is a built in philosophy because people see so much bad press when it comes to youth, that when they see youth doing good they automatically wish to help. A little word about competition. It doesn’t matter how many groups are washing windows around you, the bottom line is competition doesn’t matter. You can have a group on every corner around you and it still wouldn’t bother your response. As soon as your spokesperson gets permission and collects the cash or check, the 2 others in the group approach the auto on either side of the front windshield. Each person sprays the windshield on the side that they are on. If they are not tall enough you might bring a small step stool from home to reach the middle of the windshield. After spraying a generous portion of window cleaner on the window (more spray is required in hot climate) take the cloth covered sponge and gently scrub the entire side of the window that you are working on. If you are unsure of the type of cloth covered sponge to use, test a small portion of a window on your car and see if it scratches your window. When I first started I used one of those pot scrapers and it scratched my window. You can bet I didn’t use that one in our windshield wash.
