The article questions the cardiovascular safety of the drug diclofenac; the drug doctors say is comparable to Arcoxia. A Researcher pooled the results from 23 different studies in which people were deciding to take an NAISD. The data showed that diclofenac raised heart risks just as much as low dose Vioxx. The only medication with a greater risk was a larger dose of Vioxx.
This is bad news for Merk & Co. who is still reeling from the affects from the ban of Vioxx from the market. In a study of over 8,000 people it was found that Vioxx raised the risk of multiple cardiovascular problems such as heart attack, chest pain that was related to heart disease, sudden death, stroke, and blood clots more than 2X the traditional NAISD naproxen.
