    Kick-In-The-Pants Job Search
Believe it: three obstacles will hold you back from your ideal job -- your r?sum?, you, and your job-search methods. There’s no hidden formula; there’s no bribery needed; there’s no one standing in front of employment — other than YOU!You’ve probably heard all the excuses, or used them yourself. The job market is bad; technical jobs are going overseas; those thousands of ma

Yellow Page Secrets That Really Make Sense
I was an insider that learned the industry first-hand and discovered what the Yellow Pages was all about. It’s actually about a small pamphlet that began with a few names in Wyoming in the 1880’s and then became a household standard. It’s about a media that most people still turn to when they have a need. It’s about how even the smallest business can compete with the largest guy on
Don't get me wrong. I’m not a Luddite. I love technology. If it weren’t for technology, I’d be the owner of a small marketing firm in southwest Florida serving local clients and hoping not to go out of business every summer when the tourists leave. Instead I have a national firm with clients all over the country.

That said, I urge my clients not to use technology to the detriment of human contact and customer service. The telephone is one key area where I believe this is taking place.

The automatic telephone answering system is an abomination that should be outlawed tomorrow.

I have occasion to place phone calls to attorneys' offices around 25 times a week. Here are circumstances I run into regularly (and lest you think I’m exaggerating, let me tell you that these are much more the rule than the exception). Let’s assume I am a prospective client.

Car Wash Fundraisers and the Carwash Owner Competitors
Any nonprofit group who has ever done a car wash fundraiser has probably seen the local carwash owner drive-by and perhaps they wonder what he was thinking. Well, having been in the carwash industry for 27 years I can tell you exactly what he was thinking. He was considering that you have stolen many customers on a very busy Saturday, which he could've made a lot of money off of.<

Entrepreneurs – The Disadvantages Of Working For Yourself
Being an entrepreneur has plenty of disadvantages. Here's why becoming an entrepreneur and working for yourself is bad: You know how you sometimes go to work but really don't work? You pretend to work but you're really playing solitaire. You can't do that if you're an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs have to work; if they don't work, nobody will be there to cover their slack a

    How to Handle Irate Customers
Customer service would be one of the most difficult positions in a company mainly because the majority of people miss the point of it. You see the definition of customer service is servicing customers. Normally, when a client calls your hotline or helpdesk, they want clarification on a matter that wasn’t clearly explained before purchase, or let you know that the product they bought

Training: Using Games to Embed Learning
Too much training is boring. Too much training barely raises itself above level one in Kirkpatrick's four levels of training evaluation. That is, the reaction of students; what they thought and felt about the training. Too much training ignores the learning needs of the participants. Too much corporate training spending is wasted.Adults have some simple requirements as learne

I push the number for the directory and am urged to enter the first three letters of the person's name. First or last name? What if I don’t know who I want? I am informed by the disembodied voice that I can hold the line (or press zero), and someone will help me. So I hold the line, and the next thing I hear is “You have reached Amy, the receptionist. I’m away from desk right now so please leave a message.”

Gee, I don’t want to leave a message for Amy, so I hang up and call back. This time I consult the directory and punch the number for the attorney. He or she never answers. I leave a voice mail.

I’m exhausted and frustrated and I’ve made two long distance telephone calls. (By the way, what is the number one complaint against attorneys nationwide? Not returning phone calls.)
