Ruts: the routines in our work and lives that have become uninteresting and bothersome.Everyone has a favorite rut or two. They are comfortable, familiar and undemanding. If you stay in them long enough you begin to equate them with who you are and buy in to the belief that remaining steadfastly in them is all you can expect out of life.Ruts are furrows, gullies, creases and (dare I say) wrinkles where we tend to live life cheerfully and without much thought. We find one way of

Will Your Business Survive Without You?
I had a health scare in December. As it turns out, everything's perfectly okay. But the possibility of things not being okay really knocked me for a loop. For the first time ... ever ... I thought about what would happen to my business if I suddenly weren't around to take care of it.What an eye-opener!Fact is, I'm the only person who really knows how things work in my business.Several people - from my attorney to my coach to my book printer - know 'bits' of i

Follow me for a moment into a slightly different perspective and then tell me what you think.

When was the last time someone paid you $5 for your business card? Yes, your actual business card, the one you pull out of your wallet or snazzy business card holder. Or even $1 or less for your business card or glossy company brochure? I’m guessing that has yet to happen.

Marketing and Advertising - How Much Should You Be Spending?
Whether you’re a startup or an established small business, one of the toughest decisions that you will make is how much money you are going to spend on your advertising and marketing communications. Education is the Star at Starbucks
I avoided caffeine for many years. But with so many flights and late, late nights, I recently tried ‘just a sip’. The next day I dunked a Danish pastry. A few days later I asked for ‘half a cup, please’. In very little time, I was enjoying caf? latte for breakfast!Much has changed in the world of coffee in the past few years. Waiters used to ask, ‘Would you like cream with your coffee? Will that be one sugar or two?’ Now baristas enquire ‘Cappuccino wet or dry? Solo, doppio, soy, low-fat, not-to

And these people who got your 'business card' turns out are wanting to do business with you in a big way, people who can well spend thousands and thousands with you, who came to you through that 'business card' that you were paid $5 or less for.
