The Pit-Falls of Owner/Builder Contractor Experience
You’re young and strong and have the financial means to build your own house. You have a truckload full of tools and some experience with a hammer, so you think, “hey, I’m going to build my own house and be my own Contractor.”Admirable if not enviable, but if you plan to use that experience in the attempt to one day getting your own contractor’s license…you can pretty much forget it.Yes, it may take you ten to twelve months to build your dream house, and you may have done some, most, or even all of the work yourself. But a house built does not a contractor make. The basic requirement to qualify for a California contractor’s license is four years of experience at the journeyman level. In order for someone to qua

    NLP in Business
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming has both supporters and detractors. Some of the problems associated with NLP revolve around the claims made on its behalf, lack of a clear definition and some people being wary about what appears to be "New Age" snake oil.NLP does suffer from the lack of a single unifying theory that has been scientifically tested. Instead it is a collection of techniques which have a pragmatic approach to producing results. NLP is used for therapy, to improve communication, to improve performance and to influence people. Its success, as with most techniques, depends on the skill of the practitioner and the selection of the most effective NLP technique for a specific problem.NLP in business is potent

(Can you find them in the article?)

The Publishing Industry reports the average college graduate read just one book in all of 2005. He/She did not do better in 2004, and will only finish one book in 2007. Garbage in – garbage out.

Another thing – research indicates adults speak up to 5,100 words daily, and 78% of them are from Stream-of-Consciousness, also known as – Self-Talk. If you can harness some of these words to program your mind for financial-and-career success, happiness, and stress-busting – you can add up to 38% to your daily productivity.

    books.

    · While reading, ask yourself questions about the text – Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? This will transfer new information into your long-term memory.

    · Practice Silent Reading instead of Subvocalization (hearing all the words aloud in your mind), by gently humming while you read for the next 8 days. Sure it’s annoying, but it will enable you to triple your present reading speed.

    · Utilize your inborn peripheral vision to read groups of words at a time (chunking), instead of just one-word-at-a-time as you learned in 3rd grade - and have been reinforcing daily ever since.

Know the Law on Overtime Pay
Experts estimate that over 70% of businesses doing less than $200 million in sales in some way violate the Federal Wage and Hour Law. In my consulting practice, I am amazed at how frequently I find that clients are unknowingly setting themselves up for potential lawsuits.(See Chapter 10 in my new book, 30 Ways Managers Shoot Themselves in the Foot for more information on Compensation Opportunities in your business. See Shopping Cart at www.BillLeeOnLine.com. $21.95 + $6 S&H.)Liability for overtime that should have been paid, but wasn’t, can extend as far back as three years and can amount to big bucks if very many employees are involved. Typically, the issue of overtime arises when an employee is terminated and goes

Conserving Water at a Car Wash Fundraiser
If you use a pressure washer during your fundraiser you can wash twenty cars with one capful of soap in a two-thirds filled five-gallon water bucket. Of course your soap will be biodegradable. At least twenty-five percent of the cars you wash will not require the use of soap due to previous wax coats that have been applied. These cars combine to lower your wet/rinse cycle to about thirty seconds of spray time or 1.2 gallons of water per car. This is fifty times more efficient. You can wash fifty cars with a pressure washer to the one car washed with a garden hose in the driveway. This constitutes a significant savings in water. If you spray a car with special equipment (pressure washer) you will get a fine mist spray. The wate

Want a Healthy Brain for Life - Take These Steps Now
We know that some senior citizens are able to live into their eighties and nineties with their minds sharp and their bodies still spry. Will we be among the lucky ones? Will our brains stay mentally sharp as we age?Or will we be among those who fill nursing homes because our minds can no longer function properly? The good news is that most of us will be able to keep our cognitive faculties as we age unless we develop Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, or diabetes. As long as the brain itself remains healthy, older people can maintain their ability to think and remember, although it may take them longer to think and remember than it used to.And in some forms of mental skills, seniors are actually able to

    · Utilize your inborn peripheral vision to read groups of words at a time (chunking), instead of just one-word-at-a-time as you learned in 3rd grade - and have been reinforcing daily ever since.

    · Always reduce what you read to about five key points when you finish. Now whisper them so you can hear your own voice repeating the gist of the text. This final review helps double your long-term memory.

    Still More

    1. Teachers in 3rd grade, where we are taught to read fluently, instruct the kids to always lay the book they are reading – flat on their desk. Not! It hurts your Retina, Macula and Fovea Centralis because the angle is hard on your fourteen eye muscles. It causes you a reading deficit up to 87% in speed. Bad.

Always keep the text you’re reading at a 45-degree angle. Hold it up or use a book behind it to raise the page from the table. Best of all – read the pages fixed on your book holder at a 45-degree angle. Adding 87% to your reading speed aint hay.

    2. To avoid computer associated Dry-Eye, the Carpal Wrist Syndrome of our eyes, click the Edit button at the top of the page, and then click – Select-All. When you read for over an hour on-line, it is better-and-easier on your eyes to have a darker background with white-letters. It helps improve your comprehension up to 39%.

    3. Now find your cursor – you must simultaneously use your cursor (the tiny arrow produced by the mouse), to underline all the words of the sentences on the page. Why? is unimportant for now – it helps you read three-words at a time instead of just one.
