Secrets of Top New Business Developers
Rainmakers, top guns, power prospectors, business builders, call them what you will. If there is one challenge that consumes sales and marketing executives it’s, “How do I turn more of my team into this type of business development professional?” Rainmakers know how to keep the pipeline filled with new customers, which is the lifeblood of any organization. Recruiting experienced top guns from outside the company is enormously expensive and seldom works out in the long term. This raises a number of challenges. How can I create more rainmakers on my team? How can I become one? What exactly do the top rainmakers do that makes them so successful? It is very apparent that first and foremost, mark

Oil Change Guys History; Part I
How do franchise companies come to be? How do they start. What type of a person or entrepreneur becomes a franchisor? Below is the story of how one small company became a franchisor in the mobile oil change business. The story is written from our point of view and opinion. We claim freedom of speech, of the press in its entirety since a good part of it is opinion based.Serial Entrepreneur Lance Winslow started out in the Aircraft and Car Detailing Business about 28 years ago. Mobile Oil Changes did not exist for the consumer at that time. There were only preventative maintenance services for over the road trucks and off-road heavy equipment. During this time Jiffy Lube was growing in size
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the importance of having a clear, compelling vision to get you past all of life’s challenges and obstacles.

In fact, it prompted me to do a little research about some of our society’s most successful people. For example, did you know that:

    · Einstein’s teachers told his parents he would never amount to anything. · Thomas Edison went broke four times. · Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. · A newspaper editor fired Walt Disney for having no good ideas. · Steven Spielberg was put into a class for students with learning disabilities. · Colonel Sanders talked to 1005 people before he could find one person willing to try his recipe. That makes his closing ratio 1005 to one – undeniably the worst I’ve ever seen.

What’s inspiring to me about these highly successful people isn’t just their eventual accomplishments. It’s how they were able to overcome their early failures and go on to achieve greatness.

How did they succeed where so many others fail? Because they each had a grand and sincere vision of what they wanted to accomplish. With a grand vision, there are no such things as permanent failures. There are only temporary setbacks.

Ultimate success comes from having a strong vision. To me, a strong vision is all about setting clear goals. So how can you find your ultimate vision? Try asking yourself some of the following questions:

What do you want to have? Brainstorm wildly with this one, and don’t hold back. List everything you’ve ever dreamed of having. A new BMW. A trip around the world. Or maybe just a couple of beach houses in Maui. Whatever it is you desire, write it here.

    LTL and TL Shipment Guidelines
Certain responsibilities lie with the shipper for all LTL and TL shipments. These responsibilities apply across the board with all freight carrier companies. Proper packaging, address labeling, shipment loading and unloading, and proper shipment documents (BOL provided to you by us) are required by all carriers and are the responsibility of the shipper. These are things that your shipping agent will assist you with, but you can get a good idea here of what to expect, along with some resourceful ideas on packaging and other need-to-know info.PackagingPackaging, in most cases, will be the main protection (insurance) against shipment damage (unless factory new/factory packed). Marketing with No Marketing Budget
A few years ago a young shoe designer decided it was time to leave his father's shoe business to make it on his own. A point of disagreement between the two was that the old-school father didn't believe in advertising. Like many small business owners he relied almost totally on word-of-mouth. The son believed that his own, new business would need a strong brand identity and aggressive marketing. But first, he knew he needed to get his designs in front of the top buyers. The problem was, he couldn't afford a booth at the big trade show where all the buyers would be. So, rather than get discouraged, he got creative. He decided he'd rent a trailer, stock it with shoes, and park it a

    Firing Someone Without Resentment
Firing, sacking, letting go or terminating people is unpleasant. There are ways to minimise resentment, but why bother? Because most legal action and unpleasantness stems from dissatisfaction/resentment about the way things were handled - about how rather than what happened. Dismissal can be unfair because of the reason, or the way it was done, so you need to be extremely careful. In the law regarding employer-employee relationships, fairness is key. You must be fair, and be seen to be fair. But fairness, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder - after being terminated, very few people have clear vision!Prepare a disciplinary process/policy given to all, with a sequence of verbal then wr

What are you willing to give up? Achieving what you want is about making and managing choices, so ask yourself what you’re willing to give up in order to achieve your goals.

If you want to grow your business by 50% this year, for example, maybe you have to give up your C-rated customers. Maybe you have to give up an hour of sleep a night so you can come into the office and make your sales calls earlier. Or maybe you have to give up working out seven days a week to stay at the office later.

What’s your ideal environment? What is the ideal environment you like to work and play in? What do you want to do with your time outside of work, or when you go home? Maybe it’s riding motorcycles, learning to cook or writing a screenplay. Maybe it’s having children, or spending time with your family. Or it might just be as simple as going to the beach, reading trashy novels or watching more movies.

If you’re staring outside at a blizzard and feel tears begin to well up in your eyes, maybe your ideal place to work and play is in Florida or the Barbados. On the other hand, if the first snowflake sends you running for your skis, you’re probably already in the right place.

What are you grateful for? Record where you are today, and compare it to where you were two, three, five or even 10 years ago. Note the differences, celebrate your successes – and resolve to change those things in your life you aren’t happy with.

How long do you expect to live – and when do you want to retire? What do you plan to do after you retire? What do you want to achieve? And if you end up living ten years longer than you expecte
