As I begin this story I keep thinking back to an old TV ad that Memorex use to use. Is it live? or is it Memorex. The reason that comes to mind is because as I did my research for this article I have been told that this story is only a legend and probably never happened. Others say Oh yes it happened and did not become news because the residents of Asheville did not want to scare folks away from the Grove Park Inn or from Asheville which was just coming into it's own as a tourist area. This is the story of the Pink Lady .

Was it the late teens or early twenties ? No one I spoke to is really sure. There was no obituary, nothing in the newspaper and to this day no one has even been able to give a name to the lady in pink .

Our story starts on the second balcony above the Palm Court inside the Grove Park Inn. A beautiful young woman dressed in a lovely pink gown was seen looking down on to the court as if she was waiting on someone. From there the story gets a bit cloudy, although there was suppose to be several people who saw the woman, no one seemed to have seen anything when her young beautiful body crashed down on the floor of the Palm Court. Did she jump to her death? Was she pushed? Again no one really seemed to know. All that anyone really knew was that she had come from the balcony and found her death on the cold floor of the Inn . Today that floor is carpet but one resource says the floor is solid marble underneath the carpeting and that in the late teens and early 20's the bare marble floor was exposed. I can not verify that I did not try to look under the carpet as I walked though the inn to get a mental picture of where this tragedy may have taken place.

From that fateful night until today the legend of The Pink Lady is still alive and many reports from staff and guests of her being seen and doing things in the Inn. It is told that she still haunts room 545 although she has the complete run of the Inn and has been seen a lot more places than just her room. This was shared with me by a high ranking official with the Grove Park Inn and Spa today along with the security guard that was involved. Just a few weeks ago a couple with a young child was staying at the Inn. Sometime during the night the small child left the room and was found wandering the halls by a guest. That guest called the front desk and of course they sent one of the security officers up to help . After a few questions of the child they determined who the child was and what room they had come from . The security guard returned the young child to their room. The parents of this child were visually upset that their young child had left their room in the middle of night without their knowing it. The young child seeing how upset the mom was hugged her and said. I was just fine mommy, the nice lady in the pink dress was showing me around .

Well that is the facts as close as I could get them for you. You have to decide for yourself, is the Pink Lady real or just a legend made up to draw business to the Grove Park Inn and Spa ? No one I spoke to really knew but the folks who have had contact with her spirit will for sure tell you Shes Real!
