    The Wireless Quandary
“The cautious seldom err.” Confucius“Be prepared.” Robert Baden-PowellTo begin at the beginning is always a good place to start. Let’s begin with a shocking statement by a senior government member of the Electronic Crimes Task Force, “Many businesses should never have deployed a wireless network.”He was referring, of course, to the many security issues and problems that wireless systems generate for his group. In addition to security, there are many other items to consider before an enterprise embarks on the path to wireless networks. During the fuel rationing era of World War II countless billboards advised, “Is this trip really necessary?” The same question should be asked before setting off on the wireless journey.Wisdom dictates that we should begin with the end in mind. The company must decide what benefits wireless networks will provide. In some cases it will be legitimate: to increase productivity, advance the speed of data and decisions for key personnel, to empower mobile workers, or to garner cost savings in replacing an outdated system, etc. For others, it may simply be the attraction of new gadgetry. A cost benefit analysis needs to be made, as well as, in depth discussions and detailed planning before these systems are approved and implemented. Simple questions such as, “Is there an ROI?” and “When will ROI be achieved, if ever?” also “Who will measure it?” These points need to be explored. The most critical and over-arching question that needs to be answered is a simple one, “Tell us again, why are we doing this?”Initial steps always involve basic fact gathering. Obviously, common sense should prevail and stake holders consulted. End users need to be interviewed and their needs and problems studied and reviewed. Those involved in cost and technical evaluations must communicate and work together to achieve the common goal of determ

NY wholesalers have been known to carry the best selection and lowest prices by the retail industry. Journaling For Fun and Profit!

Have you been journaling for many years ?  Have you  ever considered that the age old tradition of journaling could help make you more profitable in your business life.

Even CEO’s of Fortune 500 Companies today are using journaling for profit.

I have been journaling for several years… In our Small business  office we have a leads journal where all brand new prospective business is immediately written down so we don’t lose it…. Particularly when I get distracted and go off on one of my creative tangents.

I have a daily journal where I write notes on every conversation that I have with a client or supplier as I am having the chat… so I will remember any and all main points, plus my commitments… I have a journal that I write notes in when I am listening to classes or courses so that I can quickly review the information and think about how I want to think about the information.  However, recently I discovered a new twist on the art of journaling.

I was in a class on a Sat. with one of my favorite coaches .  Joe  had flown in from San Diego to spend the day with our group.  He had a rather novel approach to journaling which I have been utilizing for the past month with rather surprising and interesting results.

    Here’s the gist of it.

Joe uses two journals…An imput journal and an output journal..

The input journal is used when listening to tapes, reading a book, generally for learnings and thoughts on learnings..

    The Output Journal :

Step 1/ Make a list of everything on your mind ,  literally, dump it out......put air in the Mercedes tire, buy a new electric toothbrush, pick up fresh vegy's…. And on and boring on…no matter how seemingly small or petty.

The idea behind this is that you dump your load.  Today our minds are in overwhelm, we have so much coming at us… there is no room for more.

I have been practicing this for about 6 weeks now. Just a couple times a week.  It is interesting how it empties the mind.  Ergo the well known zen koan that suggests the tea cup that is overflowing cannot retain any new content, therefore we have to learn to dump the cup before anything more can come in.

What has been interesting about this process is the quality of what comes out on paper after I have dumped the load… I used to have days of challenge with what was happening when I journaled because I would hold  a lot of content in my head  while trying to write about a particular area or subject.

Joe says that the mind is for processing not for retaining content . All that content slows us down as we never stop thinking about it.  So first you dump the load.

Once you’ve  dumped your load and all the great ideas and projects start to pour out you have some decisions to make; you won’t be able to tackle them all.  Sit with them for a time until you  figure it out.. here’s the next step.

Step2:  Note all the one step processes and highlight them in yellow.

Pick up fresh vegy’s is a one step process. Get them done or delegate them. Get the one step projects out of your life because they  take up mental energy and space, blocking your better projects.

Are you inadvertently driving your customers crazy with your company policies? Not sure?Well, imagine that a customer who's been with your company for a while with no complaints finally has a reason to contact customer service because of what appears to be a billing error. She assumes the error will be corrected quickly and she'll go on her way.Instead, your customer service rep recites a convoluted procedure she'll need to go through to rectify the issue, much to the customer's astonishment. The representative explains by saying, "I'm sorry, but that's our policy and we have to follow it."That procedure might be driven by an arcane control issue in your company -- or perhaps by a legitimate business requirement. But the customer doesn't understand the rationale behind it. In this imaginary scenario, she tries to offer suggestions, but is rebuffed by the equally frustrated employee who seems unreceptive to her proposals. The customer thinks, "Why aren't they open to my ideas? Don't they believe my opinions have value? My complaint is valid, my suggestions are good, and if they don't want to listen to them, I'll take my business elsewhere!"Finally, at her wit's end, the customer asks to speak to a supervisor. The representative resists the request and even argues against it. When the customer threatens to end her relationship with the company right then and there, the representative reluctantly summons her manager. What has caused this unhappy situation?Let's simply acknowledge the fact that holes in our policies and procedures can surface every day. In those situations, what our policies allow personnel to do can make the difference between keeping and losing a customer. Those things include:1) Sympathizing with your customer's concerns and apologizing for inconveniences.2) Explaining why the policy exists, especially if it represents points, plus my commitments… I have a journal that I write notes in when I am listening to classes or courses so that I can quickly review the information and think about how I want to think about the information.  However, recently I discovered a new twist on the art of journaling.

Step#3 When it goes beyond project status it’s a letter to God . Joe writes a letter to his inner CEO of what the completed project  would look like, puts it in The Fundamentals of Motivation
Have you ever wondered why the people in your team don’t seem as motivated as you do? Or why some people do their jobs with enthusiasm and vigor, and others barely get through the day without taking the frown off their faces? You are not alone. The topic of human motivation has been studied for hundreds of years. So it’s a topic we know a lot about. Unfortunately it’s not often taught to managers as part of their training. There are things you can do to influence how much energy people are willing to put into their jobs. Below are 5 critical things to know about motivation.1. We can’t motivate other peopleMotivation is not something we ‘do’ to others. It has to come from within. All we can do is create an environment which encourages motivation. So to some extent we are let off the hook. Our responsibility as managers only goes so far –after that, it’s up to the individual to get on board.2. Some people just won’t ever be motivatedI think we all know the truth of this. Some people are just in the wrong space, and have no interest in being part of a team, or working any harder than they absolutely have to. It can be very difficult to manage the performance of these individuals, particularly if they are doing just enough to get by. Usually the solution is to include behaviors and attitudes as part of required performance. Then their attitude becomes a tangible performance issue which can be coached and managed through the performance review system.3. One size definitely does not fit allThe fun thing about motivation is that we are all different, so you need to employ multiple strategies and approaches. Different generations, different stages of life, different needs from a career – these are all things that will influence what people desire as a motivator during their lives. The best way to find out what will motivate people is to simply ask tILY: Georgia">The input journal is used when listening to tapes, reading a book, generally for learnings and thoughts on learnings..

Step#3 When it goes beyond project status it’s a letter to God . Joe writes a letter to his inner CEO of what the completed project  would look like, puts it in Preventive Maintenance
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Predictive maintenance aims to predict the occurrence of problems so that action can be taken to avert downtime. The most common usage of predictive maintenance is with wear parts. Variations in the key dimensions of wear parts are measured and when they go below a predefined level, the part is replaced. In this way downtime and poor machine performance is averted. There are two stages to predictive maintenance: first identify a characteristic that varies as a component nears its end-of-life and second, define the level at which action should be taken. For example when a bulb is nearing its end of life it may gradually reduce its operating temperature before complete failure. By understanding the failure mechanism and the characteristic associated with its failure, the breakdown can be predicted. The temperature of the bulb at a defined distance is measured at regular intervals and logged. And temperature variations associated with failure are noted. A procedure is set up such that any recurrence of these temperature variations with future bulbs results in the earliest possible replacement of the bulb. There are 5 steps to effective predictive maintenance:Step 1: List the significant functions that constitute the machine: For example;• The loading section• The machine transportation system• The Labelling system• The tooling section• The unloading sectionStep2: Define the acceptable performance criteria for these functions: For the transportation system, the product must move at a linear speed and no jerky motion is acceptable (it is currently not possible to quantify acceptable tolerances).Step 3: List the consequences of the function failure: Are there safety or economic implications or hidden elements where the consequence of failure may not be immediately detected? For exampletyle="FONT-FAMILY: Georgia"> What has been interesting about this process is the quality of what comes out on paper after I have dumped the load… I used to have days of challenge with what was happening when I journaled because I would hold  a lot of content in my head  while trying to write about a particular area or subject.

Embossing is a method to accentuate a particular part to make it visible. It is a technique that creates a raised image or text on metals and non-metals using embossing powder, tools, dies, stamps and embossing stencils. Embossing letters and designs can be felt and seen on the surface. It adds an element of class and elegance by embossing your artistic creations.Embossing tools are used for creating embossing text and symbols on metal surface. Designs created with embossing effects look more beautiful and eye catching as compare to simple ones. Embossing tool raises the pattern out-lines from the surface. These tools may include various embossing tools like embossing stamps, die embossing, punches and embossing machines.Debossing is done using the same process but the surface is depressed. In other words it is inward embossing on the surface. Debossing effects can also be easily felt and seen.Types of embossing and debossing The following terms apply to both embossing and debossing.A registered emboss is an embossed image that exactly registers to a printed or foil stamped image. A blind emboss is an embossed image that is not stamped over a printed image or with a foil. The color of the image is the same as the metal or non-metal surface. A combo emboss refers to an embossed image that is also foil stamped.Glazing refers to an embossing that appears polished. Notably on dark-colored stocks, the heat and pressure is substantially increased to smooth and shine the surface. Using a very high temperature, light colored metal surface can be scorched so that the surface color changes. There are three most commonly used metals for embossing dies and embossing tools are magnesium, brass and copper. The Metal to be used for embossing tool is determined by shape of embossed image and the length of the run. Large images and letters can be easily embossed witp-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto">Pick up fresh vegy’s is a one step process. Get them done or delegate them.
