One decision beginning affiliate marketers need to make is what products they are going to promote. While choosing an affiliate product to promote seems easy enough in thought, choosing one that will be successful depends on many factors. Here are three suggestions to choosing an affiliate product to promote:

Choose an affiliate product with little competition

Many affiliate marketers when starting out will begin by choosing popular products. The main problem with choosing a popular affiliate product to promote is that there are many other affiliate marketers also promoting the same product. The effect of having so many affiliate marketers promoting the same product is more difficulty in getting your website ranked in the search engines unless you work hard at search engine optimization. In addition, an high number of affiliates promoting the same products also can mean higher costs if you are using ppc search engine advertising and unless you are ready to pay a significant amount per click on your ad or know you are going to get a phenomenal conversion rate, this higher cost could put your affiliate marketing attempts in the negative. In order to get an idea of the competition for a particular product, simple search for the product in a search engine and a keyword or two that you might advertise under. The lower the number of pages returned, or the fewer advertisers usually has low competition. By the way, this is also a good way to choose keywords for your product.

Choose an affiliate product that you know about

One aspect of buying a product I find important is buying from someone who is knowledgeable about the product they are selling. I don't want to buy from someone who can only tell me the product features based on what the product vendor says, I prefer to buy from someone who has actually done research on the product or, better yet, from someone who has actually used the product themselves. If you have actually done the research or have used the product, you know the benefits and the product issues and can better promote the product. Honestly, there is nothing worse than going to a landing page that can only restate the information on the vendor site.

    Ruling The Roost
New website owners are doomed from the start if they know nothing about website optimisation, that is until they realise that there is a lot more to learn than just building a website. It is a learning process from start to finish and no one can relax and expect their business to continue without constant attention to what is going on in the world of cyberspace. Affiliate Marketing Without A Website Or Opt-In List - How To Succeed
When you spend hours, days, months reading about affiliate marketing the one thing that always hits you is how people insist that to succeed you must have a successful traffic generating website or profitable opt-in list. Great, so where does that leave the affiliate newbie who might not have even heard of opt-in lists until very recently? Actually, in a surprisingly good position.Despite what many would have you believe there are actually som

Choose an affiliate product with high consumer appeal

When you choose a niche product, one thing you want to make sure of is that it has high consumer appeal. In fact, you want to balance consumer appeal with affiliate competition. Ideally, you want to find a product with high consumer appeal, but very little competition. This was how I chose two of my most successful products this year. Unfortunately, competition went up while consumer appeal remained about the same after a couple of highly successful months promoting these products. Find a good balance by looking at how many affiliates are advertising in the search engines and then use a keyword search tool like yahoo offers to see how many searches are done for a particular keyword you might use for your product. Any keyword that has well over 5000 searches in a month has a decent consumer appeal. The higher the number of searches, and the lower the number of advertisers or pages returned in the search engine will give you a good idea as to the consumer appeal to competition ratio.

While I won't say these methods are perfect, they have yielded me some very good results in the past year. With the other techniques I use to promote my websites, they have enhanced my affiliate marketing business so that I remain profitable, although still looking for that ever elusive key to making enough money to quit my day job.
