Recently I was talking with someone who spends a lot of time online. I mentioned Google Alerts and she had no clue what it is.

Even if you know about it, I’ll tell you some of how I use it and you might get some new ideas.

First, Google Alerts will do just that, alert you to any specific word or phrase that Google spiders pick up. This is why, by the way, you need to be very specific.

For example, since I have a high profile on the web and am writing articles, etc. I have my name, “Tom Justin” as a daily alert.

Then, my book, “How to Take No For An Answer And Still Succeed.” Also on the alert list are my specific websites.

It’s kind of amazing and surprising to see what alerts come in some days.

For example, I also put out alerts for the articles I write. One recent one has gone all over the world. “What I Learned From A Drunken, One-Eyed Indian” is showing reprints everywhere, including some newspaper in Punjab India. I wonder if they know what kind of Indian I was referring to?

Anyway, it’s all fascinating and you use it for any specific interest you want to list.

I choose mine to come back to me for each selection, once a day. I’ve got some business interests that I would like to see right away if Google picks them up, so they are listed as they occur.
