Making Cold Calls Enjoyable ... Impossible?
Have you ever wondered why there are still companies that use cold calls to acquire new business even though most people hang up sooner or later on most cold calls? It's the so-called 'numbers game' which goes approximately like this:- You call 100 people.- Five to 10 people listen to you for a while for whatever reason (because they're polite, or feel sorry for the cold caller or ...)<
Step 7 – Determine what you are willing to do and what changes you are willing to make to make your dream career your reality.

Now comes the hard part. You have spent a large part of your time in this process determining what you have and what you want but the greatest challenge now comes in deciding what you are willing to do to get it. Famous oil billionaire H.L. Hunt said that success requires 2 things: 1) you have to know exactly what you want and 2) you must determine the price you will have to pay to achieve it - and then get busy paying the price.

Step 7 requires that you create a visual or some type of map in your head that spells out what you want and then describes what you are willing to do and the changes you are willing to make to make the goal your reality.

In step 6, I introduced you to a client who desperately wanted out of her current job to pursue her passion of becoming a Pilates instructor. Her current job provided her with a steady paycheck, benefits, some free time and great vacations. Her goal was to become a Pilates instructor and ultimately own her own studio. This was going to require more education and training, a lot of time and effort in building a client base strong enough to merit opening a studio, and a lot of business planning.

The end result was an exciting prospect for her; but, in order to make it happen she was going to have to make some changes. Out of all of the possible scenarios she could have chosen to make this work, she decided that she would quit her current job and take advantage of her COBRA benefits for 18 months, she would use part of her savings to invest in the certification training, and she would go on a money diet where she was only allowed to purchase necessities for herself and her business. Once she had decided to take this direction, she spent the last few months of her job using all of her disposable income to pay off her credit card debt. She did not want to go into this with anything hanging over her head. She admitted the money diet was harder than she ever imagined. She did not realize how much money she spent on non-necessities!

She also decided to get a part time job in a gym or a studio to earn extra money and gain contacts and then spend all the time she could on creating a business and marketing plan to plan for the long term. Before she made any of these changes, she also made sure the people in her life were on board and she had a support system in place to help her along the way. The support system is a critical piece that should not be overlooked when making any big changes like this. This can be the difference between sticking with a very uncertain and challenging path and giving up before you reach the end.
